Even if you didn't clear out everything, honestly there is no reason to backtrack anyway, unless you want all the steam achievements, it doesn't really add anything to the game as actual metroidvania would. On top of that every part of the game is bashed in with fast travel portals.īacktracking ? If you cleaned out all hidden things first time, there is absolutely no need to ever backtrack.

After clearing the additional area you will come back to crossroads where the split happened. The whole map itself is also not a metroidvania map, its mostly linear except for the places where you choose do you want to clear out arena now or keep lineary moving forward. Now we come to real gripes, how is this game even metroidvania ? You don't gain new abilities, utilities, items that lets you access new arenas.

Honestly its not fun and i don't see why the game has to be this way, forcibly spending your whole game in inventory or sacrificing equip slots for healing seems like bad design. With that said there are 2 things that will happen, you will spend your precious equip slots not making any other build, but putting a healing amulet in there, or you will spend the whole game pausing it, opening inventory, healing manually, then closing inventory. For some reason you don't even have equip slots for healing items. Now we come to the problem part, these things doesn't regenerate and mostly can't be healed in any other way than opening your inventory and doing it manually. Ended up finishing the whole game without abusing the environment. This opinion is sure not coming from Metroidvania fans, because literally all of our favorite games are way harder than Lost Ruins, i am not really good at games, but difficult is one thing i can't describe this game with, not after i played all of our favorite metroidvanias. Not sure who this game was marketed for, but i read a lot of ''this game is too difficult'' comments about it. Take a faster weapon or spell based build to make things even easier. There is another problem with combat, its all just dull, you doge enemies attack and then hit them back, rinse and repeat for the entire game. If you are coming from any ''souls like'' game, you will feel right at home, i finished the game with the slowest sword.Ĭontrols itself are actually very tight and animations are smooth, people might read the reviews and expect a broken mess, but that just isn't the case at all.

The more players understand the environment and how to use it to their advantage, the more dangerous they will become. This game gets a lot of hate for its ''clunky mechanics, combat'', but i think this part was actually fine. Ice magic will freeze bodies of water, making them dangerously cold. Flammable liquids will be set ablaze when in contact with lit lanterns. Elements within the world react with other elements. Make Use of the Environment – As players explore the depths of Lost Ruin’s dungeons, they will find that everything around them might bring about death-or they can also use the environment to their advantage.Finding the right combination of accessories for the right encounter creates strategic options for the adventure. Accessories are unique pieces of equipment with all manner of effects-one accessory might protect you against fire, while another might heal you when in water. Choose Your Equipment – The world of Lost Ruins is a dangerous one and being armed to the teeth with awesome weaponry is sometimes not enough.Players can assign slots and choose what works best for their playstyle and approach. Electrify monsters in water, freeze bosses, or heal yourself when in danger. Master Spells – For those with an affinity for magic, Lost Ruins allows players to cast a wide variety of spells through wands, tonics, and scrolls.Players must arm themselves with a variety of swords, axes and other assorted medieval weaponry, and hack monsters to pieces. Slash away at enemies up close, burn them to a crisp with magic, or fire a bow from afar and even deflect their projectiles back at them.
